How it works: Open a PDF, then use the thumbnails on the left to reorder or delete pages. Use Rotate to fix sideways scans. Click Add text, type, and click anywhere on the page to drop a text box — drag it to fine-tune. When you're done, hit Download edited PDF. Files are processed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
About this tool

Most "edit PDF" workflows still mean opening Acrobat, paying a subscription, or uploading sensitive documents to a website you barely trust. Our free Edit PDF tool does the most-requested editing tasks — reorder, rotate, delete pages and add new text — right in your browser, with no install and no upload.

It is not a layout editor. It will not let you change a paragraph that is already part of an image or scan, and it will not redo the typography of a contract. But for the everyday changes people actually need — "drop page 3, rotate page 5, add today's date at the top of page 1, save" — it is faster than anything that requires you to download software.

How to use

How to use Edit PDF

  1. Open the PDF. Drop it into the upload zone or click Select PDF. The editor renders thumbnails of every page so you can see what you are working with.
  2. Reorder pages by dragging thumbnails. The new order is reflected in the live preview.
  3. Rotate or delete using the icons that appear when you hover over a thumbnail. Rotation is non-destructive — you can rotate again to undo.
  4. Add text by clicking the page preview. A draggable text box appears. Type, then drag it to where you want it. Resize the box for longer content; change the font size in the toolbar.
  5. Preview your changes in the live render. Anything you do is reflected immediately — nothing is committed until you export.
  6. Click "Download edited PDF". The tool builds a fresh PDF with your changes baked in and saves it to your Downloads folder.

Who it’s for

Common use cases

  • Adding a date and signature line. Drop today's date and your printed name onto a contract before printing to sign.
  • Filling in a flat PDF form. Many "PDF forms" are actually just text on a page — add a text box for each answer and download a filled copy.
  • Removing internal pages before sending. Strip cover sheets, signature instructions or appendices before forwarding a document externally.
  • Fixing a sideways scan. Phone scanners sometimes capture every other page rotated — rotate the wrong ones in 30 seconds.
  • Splitting a long PDF. Delete the pages you do not need, save, then repeat to create another subset.
  • Redacting a phone number or address. Add a text box with a solid block (or matching colour) on top of the data — for true redaction, also flatten the layer.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit existing text inside a PDF?
Not directly. PDFs do not store text the way Word does — they store positioned glyphs, often in custom-encoded fonts. To rewrite an existing paragraph, convert the PDF to Word with our PDF to Word tool, edit the docx, and re-export to PDF.
Does deleting a page actually remove it from the file?
Yes. We rebuild the PDF using pdf-lib and only the kept pages are written into the output. The dropped pages are not retrievable from the new file.
Is rotation lossless?
Yes — page rotation is metadata, not a re-render. The page content is unchanged; only its orientation flag is updated.
Can I add images, shapes or highlights?
Not yet. Text overlay is supported in this version. Images and shapes are on the roadmap. For inserting an image as a new page, use JPG to PDF and then merge the result with Merge PDF.
Will the output be smaller than the input?
Usually slightly smaller (because removed pages are gone), but never larger. If you want significant compression, run the output through our Compress PDF tool.
My PDF is password-protected. Does it still load?
Owner-password PDFs (edit restrictions only) load fine. PDFs with a user-password — where you need a password to open — must be decrypted in your normal PDF viewer first.
Is my file ever uploaded to your server?
No. The entire workflow uses your browser. Files are not sent anywhere, are not stored, and are not analysed by us.

Privacy & safety

Edit PDF performs every operation locally: rendering thumbnails (PDF.js), updating page metadata, rewriting the file (pdf-lib) and producing the download. Your document never leaves your browser. We do not log file names or contents.
